Jake Progress: September 27, 2007
This looks really strange! I am working from back to front. The eyes were first to give the painting some life. Skin and fur will get layered over the eyes. Then I began with the most distant parts of the body, the chest and Jake's ears.

Summer Cottage Redo: September 24-25, 2007
"Summer Cottage" is done! I hope. I almost always see something later that I need to adjust. I am definitely happier with the daisies and having a bird adds some life to the painting. I like the texture on the original birdhouse, but it's nice that the acrylic one looks fresher and newer. When I started painting over my original watercolor painting, I thought I was making a huge mistake, but it worked out in the end. The original watercolor is on the left, the new acrylic is on the right.
"Summer Cottage" is a 9.5"x 13.5" acrylic painting on 140lb. watercolor paper.

Summer Cottage Redo: September 17, 2007
I added a sparrow, changed the color of the birdhouse (and still need to add a shadow) and worked on the foliage. I also softened the yellow background.

Summer Cottage Redo: September 14, 2007
I painted this a few years ago and had it hanging in my house. As I have looked at it over the years, I wanted to improve on it. I am redoing it in acrylic right over the original 9.5"x13.5" watercolor painting on 140lb. watercolor paper. The photo on the left is the original. The photo on the right is the acrylic in progress.

Dahlia: September 2, 2007
Man, I thought I could do this quick little ACEO today and then start on another but this one is taking forever! This is what I have so far on "Dahlia" which is 2.5"x3.5". This is being painted in oils which obviously takes me much longer than acrylics. With oils, I can take my time dabbling and readjusting the paints. With acrylics, I'm always in a hurry to get the paint down before it dries.

Horses: September 1, 2007
I wanted to play with my painting today. I made two ACEOs using the same drawing of a horse and played with the colors.
"Horse of a Different Color" is a 2.5"x3.5" original watercolor and ink ACEO on illustration board. I have a new watercolor color that I wanted to try. It is Daniel Smith's quinacridone deep gold. It is the color in the background above the horse. It looks kind of like burnt sienna. To contrast against that, I used turquoise and lime green on the horse. Sold.
"What's Black and White and Red All Over?" is also a 2.5"x3.5" original watercolor and ink ACEO on illustration board. I have been wanting to do a painting in these three colors. The red background is decorated with brand symbols. Sold.
