Rez: October 15-17, 2011

"Rez" is a commissioned painting, 8"x10" acrylic on stretched canvas. Rez was an abandoned dog that chose her current owner who loves her dearly. Rez is enjoying the large bone that her owner's previous dog had discovered and carried out of the mountains.

This is a watercolor painting in progress. The colors I chose are mostly blues with a touch of green to harmonize with the yellow of the lemon wedge.

"Peculiar" (in progress): August 19, 2010

Whew! It has been quite a summer! I spent quite a bit of time preparing for my art show at River's Mist Gallery which was in July. Then I did a gallery talk, my first one ever, on the 16th of July. I've been so busy with other summer and family activities that I haven't had much time to paint, but I'm getting back into it. This is the first of a few illustrations that I am doing for someone. It is called, "Peculiar", 9"x12", painted in acrylic. It is still in progress.

Missouri (complete): April 9, 2010

After putting in the hat, finishing the gun and laying in tall grasses, "Missouri" is complete. This is a 20"x30" acrylic painting on stretched canvas.

This is the beginning of "Missouri", a 20"x30" acrylic painting. The under painting was put in using shades of violet and the distant hills have been laid in.

By the Bitterroot (finished): June 29, 2009

After looking at this for a week and after consulting with my client, I made some adjustments, most of which were fairly minor. The most obvious change was to the shadow-side of his face. The dark shadows have been lightened in places and the reflected light has been darkened. "By the Bitterroot" is 11"x14" acrylic on stretched canvas.

By the Bitterroot (progress): June 12, 2009

"By the Bitterroot" is nearly complete. Even when I think I'm done, I can always find something else to adjust. After photographing the painting and putting it on the computer, I can see that his chin needs more definition.

It's been a real struggle to paint the last couple of days because the air is so dry here, especially in the afternoon. My paint has been drying out and crusting over really fast so I have to keep mixing new batches. At times, it even dries out before I get the paint from palette to canvas. I'm hoping it will rain later this evening to replenish some of the moisture and I will get back to painting tomorrow.
