Happy Easter!: March 21, 2008

My son decorated some Easter eggs and, of course, I couldn't resist doing one myself. This one is painted with permanent markers. This is one egg shown from various angles.

Tapestry: January 13, 2008

Using paint on my palette left over from "Spring is Near", I painted this 4"x6" "Tapestry" in oils on handmade watercolor paper. I was having a rare bad day and decided to let the painting evolve on its own. I was hoping the rhythm of layering paint would soothe my melancholy mood.
I walked away from the painting at one point to wash my brushes and when I came back to the painting, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it looked kind of like a tapestry. Happy with the results of this piece, I think I'll have to get moody more often.

Bonita Bueno: December 3, 2007

"Bonita Bueno" is the second of two experimental abstracts from the same photo reference. In this one, I decided to go with more neutral tones with a bit of blues and greens. This is a 4"x6" watercolor on handmade watercolor paper. This image shows the rough edges of this paper. "Bonita Bueno" was painted December 3, 2007.

Bonnie Bonita: December 3, 2007

This is one of two experimental abstracts that I did using a landscape photo as a reference. I love purple, green and yellow together thus this bizarre combination. This is a 4"x6" watercolor on handmade watercolor paper. The image shows the rough edges of the paper. "Bonnie Bonita" was painted December 3, 2007.

Hot Air Balloon - Inside View: May 31, 2007

A hot air balloon floated over our town last year and landed in the park (the same park with the mural). I got some beautiful photos of it as it passed over St. Mary's Mission. My youngest son got to see the balloon up close and I took photos of the inside.
Another balloon floated over a few days ago. What a great ride that must be!
"Hot Air Balloon - Inside View" is an acrylic 2.5"x3.5" ACEO on watercolor paper. It was painted May 31, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Spring Sudoku: April 25, 2007

Sudoku is a puzzle in which the solver must enter the numbers 1-9 into blocks so that each number appears only once in each column, row and 9-block square. This is an example of a finished sudoku. In fact, it is the same one that I used for this painting.
"Spring Sudoku" is a 4"x6" mixed media painting (watercolor and acrylic) on 140lb. watercolor paper. The blocks have images of spring: fruit blossoms, daffodils, tulips, birds, birdnests and new grass.
"Spring Sudoku" was painted April 25, 2007. Purchase this painting.
