Self-Portrait: October 30, 2007

Now that's an improvement! I stopped painting after putting in the shadows on the face so it looks like it's covered in mud. I redid the background which I like better. Next comes the completion of the face...

Self-Portrait: October 29, 2007

My family didn't think the 30-minute self-portrait looked anything like me. Now I'm putting more time into the painting to see if I can meet their approval. So far I reworked the background, the arms and the eye area.
After doing the background, I realized that I used the wrong red in mixing the purple. I will redo that. I use a very limited palette: a red, a blue, a yellow, burnt sienna and white. Out of these five colors, I can create any color I want. Keeping to a limited palette makes the whole painting more cohesive. For this painting, I am using quinacridone red, ultramarine blue, hansa yellow medium, burnt sienna and titanium white in Golden fluid acrylics.

30-Minute Self-Portrait: October 21, 2007

I did this "30-Minute Self-Portrait" as a result of seeing an artist challenge on http://www.artistsnetwork.com/ last Thursday. I used my favorite colors together, green and plum. This bears a little resemblance to me but I would need more that 30 minutes to make it more accurate.

Jake Progress: October 15, 2007

I think I have finished Jake but I am not happy with the background. I worked on it a little but I think I might need to make a drastic change.

Jake Progress: October 11, 2007

Poor Jake was face-less for way too long! Now he has a little definition to his mouth. Today I worked on both the shed and Jake. I worked on the shed until I ran out of paint. What a beautiful day we had today! The trees are at their peak and the weather was perfect! Along with a photo of my lovely shed is the view that I had while painting it.

This is why I'm not getting any painting done lately. It's autumn and I've been winterizing, cleaning out the garden, painting the shed, etc. Today I primed the shed.
