Nauset Light, Cape Cod: April 29, 2007

"Nauset Light, Cape Cod" is from one of our trips to Massachusetts. As a Coast Guard veteran, I feel a connection to lighthouses.
This painting is an ACEO/ATC. Art Trading Cards (ATCs) are 2.5"x3.5" and were originally traded among artists in order for artists to be able to study each others' work up close and to have a small sampling of other artists' artwork. The Art Trading Card began to be sold on Ebay as ACEOs (Art Cards Editions & Originals). ACEOs have the same standard 2.5"x3.5" size and can be done with any medium (paint, collage, fabric, etc.) on any support (paper, wood, canvas, fabric, illustration board, plastic, etc.)
"Nauset Light, Cape Cod" is an original acrylic painting on 140lb. watercolor paper. It was painted April 29, 2007. Sold.

Blue Heron in Flight

This is a blue heron which I happened to snap a photo of last year as it was leaving the shallow waters at Lee Metcalf Wildlife Refuge. The photo was blurry but still worked as a reference.
"Blue Heron in Flight" is a 5"x7" acrylic painting on 140lb. watercolor paper. It was painted on April 27, 2007. Sold.

Tulip Up Close & Personal: April 26, 2007

Well, I began another sudoku painting but it looked like there would be no way that I could finish it today. Sudokus look fairly simple but they are quite time-consuming, especially the one I was working on. Maybe I'll finish it another day.
Being short on time, I chose this lovely closeup of a tulip and managed to complete it in between errands. "Tulip Up Close & Personal" is a 4"x6" acrylic painting on 140lb. watercolor paper. It was painted April 26, 2007.
Sold.

Spring Sudoku: April 25, 2007

Sudoku is a puzzle in which the solver must enter the numbers 1-9 into blocks so that each number appears only once in each column, row and 9-block square. This is an example of a finished sudoku. In fact, it is the same one that I used for this painting.
"Spring Sudoku" is a 4"x6" mixed media painting (watercolor and acrylic) on 140lb. watercolor paper. The blocks have images of spring: fruit blossoms, daffodils, tulips, birds, birdnests and new grass.
"Spring Sudoku" was painted April 25, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Tulips: April 24, 2007

Spring has sprung!
My mom was curious about the way I paint, so we painted together today. I chose a fairly simple subject of tulips. I also chose watercolor since she has experience with fabric dyes which have similar properties. Now she has her own original watercolor to frame. Next time we will have to try acrylics.
"Tulips" is 5"x7" on 140lb. watercolor paper. Purchase this painting.

Empty Bowl - Hungry Cat: April 23, 2007

This is a cat that showed up in my mom's yard checking out her cat's food dish. She looks as if she's asking, "Please, sir, may I have some more?"
"Empty Bowl - Hungry Cat" was done in acrylic paints on 140lb. watercolor paper on April 23, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Young Lady: April 22, 2007

I was looking around today to find something to paint and spotted a vintage photo of a girl. The photo is black & white, of course, and I had a lot of fun choosing colors for her. This is a 4"x6" acrylic painting on 140lb. watercolor paper.
"Young Lady" was painted on April 22, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Porcupine: April 21, 2007

I created "Porcupine" and a banner for my mom's ETSY page. We brainstormed for a title for her page and came up with "Porcupine Quilts". My mom loves bright colors and her favorite color is red so the porcupine and banner were made with that in mind. The porcupine was painted using watercolor paints on 4"x6" 140lb. watercolor paper.
"Porcupine" was painted on April 21, 2007. Sold.

Pineapple: April 20, 2007

I have decided to create a "Painting a Day". Being responsible to produce something every day and to post it will motivate me to stop giving excuses for not painting.
This is my first one: "Pineapple". I was looking for something quick and easy for my first "Painting a Day" painting. I chose the pineapple on my kitchen counter. I began by drawing on 4"x6" 140lb. watercolor paper.
Soon after beginning the drawing, I realized that a pineapple is not so simple but is a very complex object. I gave up drawing and went directly to painting. This worked much better for me.
"Pineapple" was painted using Golden acrylic paints and was completed April 20, 2007. Sold.
