Ornaments: November 16-20, 2007

I made these ornaments for the Stevensville Art & Sculpture Society's (S.A.S.S.) annual winter art show. S.A.S.S. sells donated ornaments and raffles donated ACEOs as well as displays members' artwork. It's always a fun evening.
These ornaments are made with polymer clay, acrylic paint, wire and beads.

Polymer Porcupine: November 16-20, 2007

For the past few days I have been playing with polymer clay. I made this little porcupine then painted it with acrylic paint. This is a sculpted version of my watercolor porcupine.

Autumn Landscape: November 15, 2007

This is an landscape project on Wet Paint. This is my interpretation of one of the three reference photos in this project. "Autumn Landscape" is an acrylic 2.5"x3.5" ACEO on 140 lb. watercolor paper. It was painted November 15, 2007. Sold.

Girl with Lilac: November 14, 2007

This is a painting from a challenge on Wet Canvas. I had forgotten where I found the challenge and it took me awhile to find it again. In the process, I found more challenges. However, I have bookmarked them all to make it easier to find them again. The paintings from the challenge will be posted on Wet Canvas on November 20.
"Girl with Lilac" is an acrylic 5"x7" painting on stretched canvas. It was painted November 14, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Skis: November 12, 2007

I used stencils to airbrush the leaves onto the skis. I then taped off the lines which I also airbrushed. It took longer to tape it than to paint it. The result is an image that looks as old as the skis. I will rub in Old English to add some protection and polish to the wood.

Skis: November 10, 2007

I spent the entire day working on the design for the skis. Of the ideas I came up with, I liked the organic flow of this one.
I cut out the organic shapes so that I could rearrange them onto the skis and then trace them out.
After starting to trace them with watercolor pencil (this makes the marks easy to wipe off with a damp cloth), I had some reservations and laid out the leaf shapes which I decided to use in the end.

Skis: November 9, 2007

I spent the day coming up with several design options for this pair of old skis. These skis will be auctioned off during the Festival of Trees in Stevensville, Montana, on December 1. This is an exciting event put on by the Stevensville Community Foundation. The theme this year is "The Holidays at Rockefeller Center".

Mask: November 7, 2007

The mask is complete! I finished the painting on the mask. It is an image I call "Bull Moon". I hung beads, bison charms and feathers on leather straps. Smaller beads were sewn onto black felt which was then adhered to the edges of the mask. I then attached the feather clusters.

Indian Corn: November 6, 2007

While waiting for my mask to dry, I began working on "Indian Corn". This is an acrylic 2.5"x3.5" ACEO on 140 lb. watercolor paper. It was painted November 6, 2007. Purchase this painting.

Mask: November 6, 2007

I soaked the mask to remove the baked sculpey from the form. The mask has been gessoed and painted white inside and out. Then I began the scene on the front of the mask.

Mask: November 5, 2007

I am working on a mask for a friend. In the past I've never had much luck with sculpey so I'm not sure this is going to work. I shaped the sculpey onto a form and baked it. Unfortunately the sculpey stuck to the form.

Art & Craft Bazaar

Well the show was a bust. I sold just enough to pay for my space. From reports that I received, sellers at other shows this weekend didn't do well either.

Show Prep: November 2, 2007

I won't be able to paint for 3 days as I am preparing for a show on Saturday, November 3rd. No matter how often I do shows, it always takes several days to frame new paintings, label and price everything, update the backdrops, and gather everything together.
This is for the Stevensville Booster Club Bazaar at the Stevensville, MT, high school. There will be 120 vendors and admission is free. It is a great place for buyers to find gift items.
Oh, and my family approves of the newest self-portrait!
